TabDeck — Privacy Policy

The short version

TabDeck stores all of your workspaces, bookmarks, notes and tasks locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in storage. There is no TabDeck server, and nothing is uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly sign in with Google to enable sync. A few widgets — weather, the daily quote, and the wallpaper slideshow — fetch data from third-party APIs described below; none of them receive your bookmarks, notes, tasks or browsing history.

Data stored locally

Everything you create in TabDeck — workspaces, quick-access links, bookmark folders, notes, tasks, trash, and your appearance/theme settings — is saved locally in your browser via Chrome's storage API. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to any TabDeck server, because no such server exists.

Chrome permissions TabDeck requests

Chrome extensions must declare upfront which browser permissions they use. Here's what each one is for and nothing more:

• bookmarks — to show your Chrome bookmark library in the sidebar and let you import folders into a workspace. Read/write happens only when you take an action like "Import from Chrome."
• history — powers the command palette's history search and the "Browsing Activity" chart in Analytics. Read locally, in your browser only.
• downloads — lets the Downloads widget show your recent Chrome downloads without leaving the new tab page.
• tabs — used to open links from Quick Access, folders, and the popup bookmarker in the right tab.
• topSites — used only to suggest starter Quick Access tiles; you can ignore or remove these suggestions at any time.
• storage — the local database TabDeck uses to save everything described above.
• geolocation — used only for the Weather widget's auto-detect. You can skip this and type your city manually instead (Settings → Weather Location).
• identity and identity.email — used only if you choose to sign in with Google for sync, described below.

Weather widget

The Weather widget requests current conditions from wttr.in, a free weather service, using either your device's coarse location (if you allow the geolocation prompt) or the city name you type manually in Settings. No other TabDeck data is sent with this request.

Daily quote

The daily motivational quote is fetched from a small public API (motivational-spark-api.vercel.app). This is a simple, anonymous request for a quote of the day — no personal or TabDeck data is included.

Wallpaper slideshow

If you enable the background wallpaper slideshow in Settings, images are loaded automatically from Picsum Photos, a curated public photo library. No account, API key, or personal data is involved — this feature simply requests an image file over the internet each time the wallpaper rotates. If it's turned off, no wallpaper requests are made at all.

Google Sign-In & Sync (optional)

If you choose "Sign in with Google" in Settings, TabDeck requests your basic Google account identity (name and email) through Chrome's standard identity APIs, and — only if you turn Sync on — uploads a copy of your workspaces, bookmarks, notes and tasks to your own Google account so it can be restored on another device. Your Google sign-in credentials are never seen or handled by TabDeck directly; authentication happens through Google's own sign-in flow.

What TabDeck does not do

• No analytics, tracking, or telemetry sent to the developers
• No advertising, and bookmarks/notes/tasks are never sold or shared
• No browsing history, bookmarks, or personal content is ever sent to the weather, quote, or wallpaper APIs
• No account system beyond the optional Google sign-in described above

Data control & deletion

You're always in control of your data. Use Export Data in Settings any time to download a full JSON backup. Uninstalling TabDeck, or using "Clear All Data" in Settings, permanently removes everything stored locally. If you've signed in with Google, you can revoke TabDeck's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

Children's privacy

TabDeck is a general-purpose productivity tool not directed at children and is not knowingly used to collect data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Material changes will be noted alongside the extension's release notes.
